Hammerhead—
Dad bod cyclist
Beau Marksohn’s journey of strength and perseverance through depression, anxiety & body dysmorphia.
Cycling represents something different to every person. For a long time, all it represented to Hammerhead ambassador Beau Marksohn AKA @everybody_beau, was an unapproachable sport that was for people that look nothing like him.
It took Beau hesitantly hopping on a bike during the pandemic to discover what lay hidden behind the barriers to entry for him: community, a more positive relationship between his body and mind, and a platform to utilize his life experiences to set a positive example for others.
After enduring a traumatic and abusive childhood, Beau has faced a lifelong struggle with mental health issues. It wasn't until someone explained what body dysmorphia was that Beau grasped it as something he experiences and therefore could address.
Conversations like these partly draw Beau towards cycling nowadays. Beau rides with a London club called Chain Gang Cyclists, founded on principles of inclusivity and positivity. Their group rides always welcome new invitees, offering opportunities for people to converse and connect with others.
Beau’s focus is now set on changing how people think about the sport of cycling. He uses his social media account @everybody_beau to discuss topics such as depression, anxiety, body dysmorphia, and more. Cycling now serves as a tool Beau employs in his ongoing struggle to maintain the health of his mind and body.
